서울대학교 조경•지역시스템공학부 교수로 조경설계, 조경미학, 현대조경이론, 통합환경설계, 환경미학 등을 가르치고 있으며, 월간 '환경과조경'의 편집주간으로 활동하고 있다.
대표 저서로 '현대 조경설계의 이론과 쟁점'과 '조경의 시대, 조경을 넘어'가 있으며, '경관이 만드는 도시'와 '라지 파크'를 번역했다. '건축․도시․조경의 지식 지형', '용산공원', '공원을 읽다', '봄, 디자인 경쟁 시대의 조경', 'LAnD: 조경 미학 디자인', '봄, 조경․사회․디자인', 'Locus 2: 조경과 비평', 'Locus 1: 조경과 문화', '우리 시대의 조경 속으로'등 다수의 책을 여러 동학들과 함께 썼다.
조경 이론과 설계, 조경 미학과 비평 사이의 다각적 함수를 구축해 왔으며, 통합적 공간 디자인의 문화적 전략을 탐색하고 있다. 행정중심복합도시 중앙녹지공간, 광교호수공원, 용산공원 등 대형 프로젝트의 기획과 구상에 참여하여 이론과 실천의 교집합을 확장하고 있기도 하다.
Jeong-Hann Pae is a Professor of Landscape Architecture at Seoul National University. He received Ph.D., MLA, and BS from Seoul National University and conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania. His research and teaching focus on the intersections between contemporary landscape architecture theory, landscape urbanism, and integrated environmental design and aesthetics.
Dr. Pae has published lots of theoretical books, including Contemporary Landscape Architecture: Its Theoretical and Practical Issues, Beyond the Landscape Architecture, Reading Parks, and Yongsan Park. He is the founding member of ‘Critics Bom’ and has edited five books on landscape architectural criticism.
He has also worked as a Professional Advisor for many international design competitions, such as the International Design Competition for Central Open Space in Multi-functional Administrative City and the International Competition for Master Plan of the Yongsan Park. Recently, he is in charge of the Landscape Architecture Korea(monthly magazine)'s Editor-in-Chief.
